What is Dental Bonding?
Bonding is a type of cosmetic procedure that can enhance and correct the front of your smile. Tooth-colored composite resin is used to fill in areas that are cracked, chipped, or unevenly spaced. Bonding is easy to care for, and can last for about 10 years before we’ll recommend replacement. The procedure itself is noninvasive, with many patients needing little to no anesthetic.
Why is Dental Bonding needed?
You may want or need dental bonding because you’re currently unhappy with the way that your smile looks. If you are looking for a quick and effective way to correct minor imperfections without completely covering the tooth with a crown, then bonding is a great option to consider. Some of the problems that bonding can cover include:
- Chipped teeth
- Cracked or broken teeth
- Spaces or gaps between teeth
- Teeth that are smaller than is normal
Who is a candidate for Dental Bonding?
Bonding is useful on otherwise healthy adult teeth. If the tooth has decay, we will recommend having a filling placed before any bonding work is done. We can examine your teeth to determine if bonding is right for you. Because the composite resin is matched perfectly to your smile, it’ll blend in seamlessly with your natural teeth, and will not look out of place.
What happens during the procedure for Dental Bonding?
We first apply a bonding gel agent to the tooth. This gel is allowed to sit for a short period of time and then is washed away. After being matched to your tooth’s color, the composite resin is carefully applied to the area. The material is cured with a bright light so that it doesn’t move or shift out of place. We will adjust the look of the bonding so that it feels no different than your real teeth. The procedure isn’t just quick, it’s entirely effective at improving the look of your smile and getting rid of problem areas towards the front of the mouth.
