Dental Crowns

What are Dental Crowns?

Crowns are normally used to cover and protect a tooth that’s damaged. Oftentimes, these restorations are needed if you’ve cracked or broken a tooth, or if you’ve recently had a root canal performed. Porcelain crowns aren’t just beneficial for cosmetic reasons, they can help with oral functionality as well, and can cover areas of a tooth that are sharp and jagged. Your new dental crown can last for years, or even decades, before replacement is needed.

Why are Dental Crowns needed?

The reason a dental crown might be necessary is because you’ve cracked, broken, or damaged one of your teeth. You might need a crown following oral or facial trauma that caused one or more teeth to break. Additionally, we often recommend porcelain crowns after a patient has had a root canal performed. Root canals often leave teeth vulnerable to breaking, so covering the tooth before this happens can prevent injury and other dental problems.

Who is a candidate for Dental Crowns?

We will examine your teeth to determine if you might benefit from a dental crown. If you already have a crown that is older and showing signs of wear, we will recommend having it replaced as soon as possible. A crown is ideal for patients wanting a way to repair a tooth without it looking out of place. Porcelain crowns are custom made for each patient, and blend in flawlessly with the rest of your smile.

What happens during the procedure for Dental Crowns?

We begin by administering a local anesthetic to numb the area. The damaged tooth is smoothed down to form a tiny seat, or abutment, for the new crown. Impressions are taken and then used to craft the porcelain crown for you. The next visit into our office involves placing the actual crown, then adjusting its fit and bite. You can leave the office enjoying your brand new smile. Your crown typically won’t require any special care, and we can check on it at each of your bi-annual dental checkups.

If you think you might need a new dental crown, call us today and we will get you in for a quick, convenient appointment.

Amin Salvi Dental
Is Now Open!

The last few months have been challenging for all of us. We have missed seeing you, chatting with you, sharing stories with you and laughing with you. We are SO excited to finally be able to invite you back to our office!

As you already know, Amin Salvi Dental does not cut corners on safety and technology. We have always prided ourselves in exceeding the recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for infection control measures. During this closure, we decided to go above and beyond that by adding further safety measures, which have been outlined below. The comfort and safety of our patients, of our team members, and of our own families remain our top priority.

  • All essential paperwork (including a COVID-19 screening form) along with financial agreements are to be done prior to your appointment. We will be texting and emailing the links for the forms to be filled out at home or on your mobile device. If you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or feel ill, please reschedule your appointment and call your physician.
  • When you arrive for your appointment, please wait in the car and text or call the office. We will inform you when to enter the office so we can maintain social distancing protocols
  • When entering the office, it is mandatory to wear a mask or face covering. Although county guidelines are not as strict, we maintain this requirement for the safety of everyone. Due to a worldwide shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) we cannot provide masks. Should you require one, we will charge you $1 for the mask.
  • Patients must arrive to their appointment alone without family/friends. A single guardian will be allowed for minors, elderly and those with special needs or requirements.
  • We will be taking your temperature when arriving to our office and recording this in your records.

Here are a few additional things we are doing to keep everyone safe and healthy:

  • We have installed air purification systems in the main operatories
  • We have installed sneeze guards at the check-in and check-out areas. We request that when you are required to talk to the front desk administration, you stand behind those.
  • Before appointments, we will use a medical peroxide pre-rinse which has been proven to help kill virus particles

We will have new scheduling guidelines

You will be hearing from us shortly as we are rescheduling routine hygiene and treatment for everyone. As you can imagine, we have a large backlog of cancelled appointments so we appreciate your patience through this process.

If you have any immediate concerns, we request not to call the office but text us at the office number or email us at

Due to the new protocols for physical distancing in the office, we may have limited availability of appointments. Due to this we require a minimum 48 hour notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment to avoid a cancellation fee. This allows other patients, who have been waiting, to be seen. Please be courteous to others.

For many procedures we will also be requiring a reservation fee in advance. This fee will be applied to your deductible or co-pay for the treatment and is not an additional fee of any kind.

We look forward to seeing all of you and catching up on the activities you have been doing to keep busy during this downtime!
